About

Complete Ballet CIC

We are a Community Interest Company offering a unique mix of dance classes and social opportunities to adults and older people in the North East of England. Our vision is to be ‘more than a ballet class’ and we aim to achieve this by:

1) Improving the health and wellbeing of those that take part, and reducing loneliness

2) Creating opportunities to bring people and communities together over a shared love of dance

3) Breaking down stereotypes through proving that dance is for everyone -no whatever what your age or ability

4) Increasing interest and engagement in the performing arts

Our profits are reinvested into benefiting the community we have created, and the communities in which we dance.

We put a real focus on social activities and events to get people connecting over ballet and building friendships -especially with our Silver Swans group.

What our students say

"As well as Rebecca’s very friendly welcome, she was a great encouragement to me to move when it was easy to do nothing - and I enjoyed it and got benefit from gentle exercise."
Isabel, Chair Based Ballet
"The classes are very friendly and Rebecca is very good at giving us choices and adaptations so that we can all dance, despite some dodgy joints and backs. Because we’re exercising to beautiful music, it doesn’t feel so hard but I can tell that I’ve really improved my fitness, flexibility and balance."
Sue, Silver Swan
"Love love love the Silver Swans at 9.30am on a Saturday, So pleased to have discovered this class -many thanks to Rebecca -you are a star ****"
Stephanie, Silver Swan
"Thank you so much for all the wonderful lessons you have provided over the past few months, Matilda has enjoyed them very much."
Victoria, parent of student
"Thank you so much for helping me to feel happy and confident when i dance. I really enjoy my lessons with you"
Eleanor, RAD Student
"Rebecca Yates is the loveliest of teachers! I went to the class on my own after seeing it advertised on Facebook- after a few weeks it had to be postponed due to the current health crisis - however - Rebecca is doing live on line lessons - I love this - I have never danced before in my life! I so much enjoy learning - and it doesn’t matter how many times you don’t get it quite right! I really appreciate Rebecca’s efforts to keep us dancing! Lovely lady!"
Denise, Silver Swan
"I'm so very glad I decided to take up ballet - it's a great group, very friendly, and I'm enjoying it more than I ever could have imagined! Great exercise as well for strength, posture and balance - and I love wearing my red ballet shoes and swishy ballet skirt!!"
Sue, Silver Swan
"Ballet came to me later in life never having done it before. I thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie and banter in class with the teacher and fellow dancers. Although we are learning to dance we also have fun doing so. It is so uplifting for the soul I would recommend it to anyone."
Alison, Silver Swan

Our Directors

Clare Dugdill

Clare has studied ballet for 28 years, completing RAD graded examinations up to grade 8 and vocational examinations up to Advanced.

Clare is also a trained advanced critical care practitioner with qualifications in teaching and is currently completing her Masters in advanced clinical practice.
Despite this, Clare remains incredibly passionate about ballet and attributes her successful career to the skills and qualities she learnt through dance.

She is honoured to be a part of the team at Complete Ballet.

Emily Wallace

Emily is an educator and an entrepreneur with many years of experience in a variety of settings, including the dance sector. She has taught ballet for almost fifteen years and has a specialism in the Cecchetti Method. She has also worked in primary and secondary schools, in management and fundraising, and is a linguist and a writer as well as a passionate lover of dance.

As a businesswoman, she runs her own community interest company on Wearside, Sunderland Ballet CIC, which aims to widen participation in ballet, and improve lives and local culture through dance. As such, she is very proud to play a small part in Complete Ballet, a company whose ethos and values she wholeheartedly shares.

More than a ballet class

Silver Swan classes are specifically designed for people over 55, but all ages and abilities are welcome -whether you’re starting from scratch or returning to something you love. You’ll learn real ballet steps, allowing you to express yourself through music, try something new, and socialise.

We believe the social side is just as important as the actual dancing itself, so we make sure:

  • There’s time to chat and catch-up in every class
  • We often go for a cuppa after class
  • We organise exciting theatre trips and events to get people together

Then Silver Swans is the perfect ballet class for you. Our award-winning teacher, Rebecca, creates a relaxing yet sociable environment, supporting men and women from all walks of life to feel confident, and fit.

Whether you are looking to join a dance class yourself or to find one for your child, you don’t just want a good teacher, you want the best.

Development

As a Registered Teacher, Rebecca has a full DBS check and follows the Royal Academy of Dance Code of Professional Practice and Code of Conduct. You can see Complete Ballet policies here.
