BALLET BODY CONDITIONING

We offer specialist classes in body conditioning, using methods that have been proven to enhance ballet technique. They are ideal for dancers who want more than a ballet class and to take their training to another level but also for non-dancers who are looking for new ways to improve muscle strength, posture and flexibility. As most body conditioning exercises are non-weight bearing too, they are usually suitable for people recovering from injury.

Floor barre

Floor barre exercises enhance technical ability, body strength and awareness. Exercises are built around steps from the ballet class but are performed lying or sitting on a mat to support correct posture and placement. Our classes are suitable for young children aged 6 years through to adults.

Flexibility and muscle release

Ballet uses almost every muscle in the body and it’s no wonder than some of them get over-loaded and remain tight, which then effects their ability to function well. Our classes and workshops use a combination of mat-based exercises, resistance band work and muscle release techniques to safely lengthen and relax muscles and improve overall flexibility and performance. Body Reflexions

We work with Body Reflexions -a small and specialised Holistic Wellbeing studio -to provide sessions for our dancers to release their muscles and re-align their bodies. They also offer wonderful sessions in relaxation and calming the mind and body.

We also recommend their Holistic Core Restore®️ Course for women which focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor and core muscles with amazing results!

Physio for dancers

We work with Physiotherapy Ltd -a family run physiotherapy clinic -and offer group events and online sessions for dancers to learn more about their muscles and joints and understand how to get the best from them when they dance. Physiotherapy Ltd also specialise in women’s health and our events for adult and older dancers are perfect for learning more about how to look after your body when you dance.

The expert physiotherapists can also provide private appointments to give dancers a more in-depth assessment and a bespoke treatment plan to correct any alignment or posture issues and improve movement. Your Complete Ballet teacher will use that insight to tailor exercises for you in your classes

If dancers need to continue treatment for an injury or more long-term issues, they can continue to work with the physiotherapist team.

Find out more

During the pandemic, we worked with Physiotherapy Ltd to produce a video about how adults, particularly older adults, can look after their bodies and manage their health conditions so they can dance for longer. The video is packed with brilliant explanations of how the joints and muscles work, exercises and stretches to try, as well as a look at menopause and other health conditions that might affect the body when dancing. The video can be purchased for £5 by clicking the link below.
